What I like about Solo Roleplaying Games, is you can create Storys out of nothing. There are so many products out there that you can use for Hours of Adventure Building. Today I want to create a Modern Adventure using a few of my favorite products and see, how they can connect.
Let me grab my Gear and let’s GO!!
First, I started with a Story Idea. I want to write a little Story about a cute Thief in a Modern Setting. I started on dndbeyond and created a Rogue Character named Samantha “Sam” Walker. I was lucky with my Dice Rolls upon creation and rolled an 18 on 1 Stat. The Modifyer got me a Dex of 19.
I will use the Mythic GME and the Adventure Crafter for this Play and see if you can use them for a Modern Setting as well.
First, I put Sam on my Character List and I created her Life Goal. She heard about a famous Diamond worth Millions. It is called the Jasper Diamond and it went missing. Nobody knows where it is. Sam wants to find the Diamond using her Connections in the City.
(A little Information – After finishing the First Act of the Story I found a Rule, that if missed. You are supposed to put Characters more than once on the Character List if they get invoked in the Story. But not more than 3 Times. Totally missed this Rule and did not do this here. But, will know this in the Future.)
Let me start with the Adventure Crafter and let’s create the first Scene.
This is the Theme List for this Adventure:
Red – 73 – Personal – Framed
Yellow – 04 – Personal – Conclusion
Green – 58 – Action – Taking Chances
Blue – 90 – Action – Protector
White – 82 – Action – Sneaky Barrier
PLOT POINTS | CHARACTERS INVOKED |
Framed – A Cha is unfairly framed by another Cha | Cha+ Cha – Sam + Gangster |
Conclusion – But we have a new Plotline so it becomes a None | – |
Taking Chances – A Cha acts in a very risky way. | Cha – Sam |
Protector – A Cha must protect someone or something – If Action PP the Cha must actively protect in this TP from a Threat. | Cha – Sam |
Sneaky Barrier – A barrier needs to be overcome through stealth or dexterity. |
First, we need to create a new Character. I thought, that maybe Sam was coming across a Crime Scene, where someone tried to mug a person.
Character Special Trait – 90 – The Cha hinders resolving this Plotline – Gets in the way of resolving the current Plotline in some way.
Identity – 69 – Executive – Vorstand
Descriptor – 69 again – Erratic – unberechenbar
Sam is trying to sneak behind the Gangster – Let’s roll a Stealth Check DC 17 – We have a +8 to this. And, we rolled a – 12+8 = 20 – So we can sneak behind. Sam grabs an Iron Rod that is lying in the alleyway. The Gangster has an HP of 9 – And we get a Sneak Attack Bonus. His AC is 12.
I rolled a 19 + 6 – I am using my Melee Weapon Attack Eather way, we would have hit him. So 1d6 + 4 Plus 1d6 Sneak Attack. 2+2+4 – 8. He has 1 HP left.
During the Fight, the Guy who was getting Mugged ran away and alerted the Police. Sirens are now in a close distance. It would not look good for her if the Police found her like this. Let’s run away from the Police and try and Hide. Let’s roll a Stealth Check and see where we are at. 16+8 = 24 we feel hidden quite well.
So, after that, we need to manage a few things on our lists.
- I want to Add the Gangster to my “Person” list because he is not Dead.
- I don’t know if I should put the Guy on it who was getting Mugged. And, I might add the Police to the List.
- Instead of the Shortsword which is not that Modern I feel like changing the Name to the Iron Rod, which is still in her Possession.
Great – That is looking not that bad. Now, let’s move to the next Scene. I want to generate 1 more new Plot.
Scene 2
Red – 93 – Personal – Protector
Yellow – 62 – Personal – Prized Possession
Green – 93 – Tension – A New Enemy
Blue – 06 – Mystery or Social – Conclusion – Eather Way…
White – 42 – Action – Immediately
PLOT POINT | CHARACTER INVOKED |
Protector – A Cha must protect someone or something. Cha receives the protection duty in this TP
Prized Possession – Whatever is happening in this TP it involves an important possession of a Cha. | Who’s possession? – New Character |
A New Enemy – This TP presents a new threat to a Cha. | New Character Automaticly. |
Conclusion – It’s a new PP so – NONE
Immediately – Immediate action is required in this TP |
Who is our new Character:
87 – The Cha hinders resolving this Plotline
73 – Explorer
75 – Frightened
Sam is safe from the Police. They did not find her, but she has no idea where she is at the moment. After looking around, she is in a Basement of someone’s House. This would not be a problem, but, the guy is sitting on a Sofa in the Corner and is pointing a gun at her. He is huge and even with her Weapons, Sam would have no chance of fighting him.
He tells Sam he will call the Police, and tell them she came in and stole his iPad. Or she could tell him what she is doing here. Sam tells him, that she helped a guy that was being mugged, but the Police came and the Gangster was still alive, as she believes.
Does he believe her? DC 17 Persuasion Check – 12+5=17 – Uuh that was close.
He bearly believes us. He asks us if we want to go and look at the Scene – We would be able to look out from the Roof. At least he could tell her his Name. Roger would like to help us if we really did not commit the Crime which we did not.
Let’s make an Inside Check DC 15 – 6+2 +8 – We have no idea, if we can trust Roger but he has Sam in his Hands for the Moment. And he urges us to leave the Iron Rod here. But does not know that we have 2 Daggers on us. Let’s roll a D20 and see if he can find them. 1-5 he does not find them – 6-17 he finds 1 Dagger and 18+ he finds both… 12 – He finds 1 Dagger. So we lose 1 Dagger and the Rod.
Scene Conclusion – We have a new Enemy – Roger he has us in his Hands – We need to try to escape from him. But at the moment we need to follow him up to the roof.
Nice – Now let’s see what Scene 3 will bring us. I want to roll a d100 and look at the Plotline List. 87 – New Plotline – The Dice decided. Let’s roll a new Scene
Scene 4
Red – 42 – Tension – Bad Decision
Yellow – 100 – Personal – Meta
Green – 29 – A Cha is attacked in a lethal way
Blue – 97 – Tension – Meta
White – 60 – Personal – Help is offered for a Price
PLOT POINTS | CHARACTER INVOKED |
Bad Decision – A decision Cha made has turned out to be a very bad one.
Meta Plot 92 – Plotline Combo – d100 – 42 – Most Logical Plotline
Attacked in a Lethal way – An Assailant is trying to kill a Cha. | Cha. |
Meta Plot 83 – Plotline Combo – d100 – Most Logical Plotline
Help is offered, for a Price – A Cha offers to help another Cha in exchange for something. | Cha – Roger |
So I rolled a Meta Plot Twice and both times it’s a Plotline Combo. We only have 4 Plotlines on the List. We need to choose the Most Logical Plotlines and create a new one.
Here is what I am thinking. I am choosing “Find the Jasper Diamond” and “What Happened to the Gangster.” Looking down from the Roof they see the Crime Scene. The Police are there and are looking around. But there is no one lying on the Floor. You both see a blood trail leaving from the Scene to the Street where it vanishes. Most likely went inside a Car. But it does not look like an Ambulance, because they are standing on the other side of the Street.
Sam and Roger trying to figure out what happened. seemingly out of nowhere, a Dart is flying close to Sams Face. Does it hit her? We have an AC of 15. Normally a Weapon has a + something to hit. So because I don’t know who shot it and what the Stats are, I will roll a d20 and a d4 to see if I get a Hit on Sam. Huuu a Natural 20+1 for a 21. Definitely Hit. 1d4+4 3+4=7 HP from our 9. We are at 2 HP. Roger grabs Sam and manages to get themselves back into the House. Who did attack them? When asking for some Enemys Sam has no Idea. But, there is someone after her.
What was Sam doing in this Neighborhood – Roger is trying to Heal Sam with Medicine. – I will treat that as a Potion of Healing for 2 d4 + 2 – 2+3+2 = 7 HP back. Sam was looking for the Jasper Diamond – Roger knows exactly what she is talking about because he is looking for the Diamond himself. He will help Sam if she is willing to share in the End. Half is better than none.
Scene 5
Red – 33 – Personal – Wanted by the Law
Yellow – 24 – Personal – None
Green – 72 – Personal – Character Harm
Blue – 68 – Personal – Innocence
White – 43 – Personal – The Observer
PLOT POINTS | CHARACTER INVOKED |
Wanted by the Law – A Cha is wanted for a crime. It doesn’t matter if they actually did the crime | Cha – 99 – New Character – David |
NONE – | |
Cha Harm – A Cha hurt another Cha in some personal way. | Cha + Cha 79 – Logical + 20 Assassin |
Innocence – This TP involves an element of innocence, usually an innocent person in an otherwise less-than-innocent situation. | CHa 26 – New Character – David |
The Observer – Whatever is happening in this TP that is presumed to be private from someone, is actually being witnessed or observed. |
First, let’s create a new Character
Special Trait 83 – The Cha assists in Resolvint this Plotline
Identity 30 – Roll for Two – 95 – Organizer + 47 – Supporter
Descriptor 18 – Roll for Two – 54 – Clumsy – 76 – Brave
Roger opens up the TV the next morning and they are already looking for a Witness or the Woman, that was seen on the Crimescene. Roger has an Idea and calls his best Friend – 51 – David – who always has an Idea. They tell him what happened and then he goes into his Thinking Mode.
After that, he calls the Police telling them that he might have some information for them. When asking him, who he was, he tells them, that he organized Ralleys for Neighbourhood Politics – He was going to a Copyshop that was open 24/7 to print out some flyers for the next day. He was late and forgot to print them the day before. When he saw a Gangster attacking a man in the Alley. He was brave, but not suicidal. He then ran away to see if he could find someone to help. They don’t believe him and he gets told, that he needs to come to the Police for an Investigation, otherwise, they would believe he had something to do with the Plot.
In the Afternoon News, they were covering the Story. Telling everyone, that this Woman was seen leaving the Crime Scene and it was a Picture, taken from Sam on the Rooftop a few hours before. The only way, someone would have seen that is if they were looking for her specifically. It must have been the Assassin that was framing her.
So I changed the Plotline marked beneath – Is Police on her Case? I changed to Police on her Case – Framed. And I added David to the Character List.
Scene 6
35 – Logical Plotline
Red – 60 – Personal – Help is offered for a Price
Yellow – 78 – Personal – Bribe
Green – 05 – Tension – Conclusion
Blue – 80 – Action – Frenetic Activity
White – 97 – Action – Meta –
PLOT POINTS | CHARACTER INVOKED |
Help is offered for a Price – A Cha offers to help another Cha in exchange for something. | Cha + Cha 94 – Logical + 04 – Sam – (David – Sam) |
Bribe – A Cha is offered a bribe by another Cha to do something that is not legitimate. | Cha + Cha 88 – Logical + 57 – Logical – (Roger – David) |
Conclusion – If TP is currently a plotline Development – which it is – then it becomes a Plotline Conclusion.
Frenetic Activity – This TP involves action coming fast and furious at a Cha. – a series of attackers | Cha 98 – New Cha – Strider Gang |
Meta – 70 – Character Downgrade – A Cha becomes less important, remove them from two slots on the Characters List even if it removes them completely from the List. | Cha 72 Logical – Assassin |
Out of nowhere, the 3 get attacked by tree People, that are coming through the closed window. Glass shattered all over the Place. After a hard fight, where the 3 bearly survived, they managed to get them out of their way. Not before, they find out, that one of them was the Assassin who tried to kill Sam yesterday and framed her to the Police.
After looking through their stuff, they find a few Coins and Knives but, they also find out that the Gangsters were part of the Strider Gang. And if they are really involved in this whole episode, they need to run quickly before more of them come here.
David wants nothing to do with the Strider Gang and wants out, but Roger is bribing him. By helping them find the Jasper Diamond he will get a part of the Share. Sam is against that Idea, but David remains stubborn, that he will only help them if he can get a Cut in this.
So, I removed the Assassin from the List, but I added the Strider Gang to it. And I finished the Plotline Who is the Assassin as part of the Conclusion.
Summary
Using the Adventure Crafter works just fine in a Modern Times Setting. The Prompts for the Plot are so narrow but still work just amazing together. As said before the Adventure, I did not get the Rule with the Character List right. I will update them according to the Story…
Please let me know in the Comments if you like this Style of Gameplay and if you have any Ideas for Future Adventures. Hope you have a great Day.
