Using the Adventure Crafter by Tana Pigeon – Create a Story with me from Scratch

I am looking into the Adventure Crafter by Tana Pigeon and I would like to try and create a new Story without knowing anything in advance.

Why don’t we roll a Character? I am using a Table Fables Character for this.

Meet:
Gnome, Female, Aging, Rude, Chaotic Good, Cleric
Misguided, Inward and Cheerful.
Her Name is Loxy Evelyn.

In the Adventure Crafter, you are using 5 Themes. Action, Personal, Mystery, Social, and Tension. I put this Inside the Workbook for the Story. After that, you start by using the Cards to generate 5 Plot Points. Since I don’t have the physical Cards yet, I will use 5 Dice and then grab the Cards in my PDF. For every Card, we will Roll a d10 to figure out the Themes and then we see, where the Adventure leads us, or Loxy.

Here are my 5 d100 Rolls:

Red: 1 – Action – Catastrophe

Yellow: 1 – Action – Conclusion

Green: 4 – Action – Physical Barrier to Overcome

Blue: 6 – Personal – None

White: 3 – Action – None

PLOT POINTS CHARACTERS INVOKED
Catastrophe – The worst thing that can happen does happen and with much action
Conclusion – If this Turning Point is a New Plotline then consider the PP a None
Barrier – A Character faces a physical barrier of some sort that must be overcome. Whatever the barrier is, it will require physical action to get past.
None
None

So, how can we work out a Storyline from these Plot Points? We know, that Loxy is a Cleric. So, she might be on the Move to find something. How about Loxy is the Towns Healer? She needs to find an Important Plant in the Woods. Ok. The Physical barrier. Roxy has to go over a hanging bridge outside of Town. She has to pass a physical Test. DC 13 Athletics Check. I quickly worked out a Character over on dndbeyond and here are her stats.

We have a -2 for Strengh. 7-2 is 5. So we get a Catastrophe on a Hanging Bridge. Loxy heard a loud crack behind her. A branch falls down and right on her Bridge. The brittle Wood and the old String start to crumble. Do we have anything that can help us – Not really, but I don’t want to finish the Story on the First Plot Points. So let’s say, that Loxy can grab the Wood on the Bridge, swinging to the Other Side, when a Hand reaches down to grab her, just before she falls down.

The Bridge is one of the only ways into her Town. She needs to find another way back home. At least, the Branch of the Tree that was falling down sort of stayed on the Edge of the Cliff. So no one will fall from there. So, let’s find out who helped Loxy.

Meet:
Elf, Male, Elderly, Friendly, Neutral Good, Druid. – Somehow this gives me Getafix-Vibes… 🙂
Tasteful, Misguided, Organized
His Name is Ellis Deron

Let me put Ellis on the Character List.

Loxy thanks Ellis for saving her life and she wants to give him something.

I made this Dice for myself. It is a blank white Dice – I will leave a link to them at the End of the Story and I made a Yes, Yes +, Yes – and No, No +, No -.

Let’s roll and see what we can get. No+ – So Ellis says no to a Gift AND he wants to help Loxy instead. So they decide to go on Finding this Plant together.

I put this Plant as a Plot Point in our Adventure. This is our Main Thread. But let’s find out a bit more about this Plant. In Table Fables II on Page 32 there is a Questionable Plants section. We roll a d4, d10 and 2d8 and we will get:

1 – Tiny

10 – Chalky

3 – Hairy

3 – Fern

12 – The Target suffers an extreme allergic reaction – But let’s reverse this. Loxy can heal an Alergic Reaction with this Fern.

Scene 2

Let’s Roll 5 new Plot Points. – This Time we will use the Bottom Half of the Cards.

68, 18, 06, 28, 96

Red: 3 – Action – None

Yellow: 3 – Action – Physical Barrier to Overcome

Green: 5 – Personal – A Focus on the Mundane

Blue: 6 – Personal – None

White: 3 – Action – Conclusion

PLOT POINTSCHARACTERS INVOKED
None
Physical Barrier to Overcome – Another Obstacle to go around.
Focus on Mundane – TP involves a focus on something ordinary. Picture, or Living Room New Character – Eny, Ellis Daughter.
None
Conclusion – Again this is a New Turning Point. So nothing Happens.

They came across another Obstacle. – While walking, they have to climb over a giant Tree that is lying in front of them. Let’s do a DC 14 Acrobatics Check. Loxy 14+1 = 15 und Ellis 19+2 = 21. So both can move over the Tree. After walking for a while, they decide to Take a break. While sitting there Loxy sees a Picture in the Bag, that Ellis is holding while he is looking for his Water. After asking, Ellis confesses, that this is his Daughter Eny. And that he is looking for her, as she ran away with a Fighter Human. Loxy tells Ellis that she will be on the lookout for Eny.

So to get a bit more Ideas for our Adventure, I decided to put Enys Name and the Theme of finding her on the two Lists.

Scene 3

I want 1 more Plotline, that we could potentially Follow. Let’s see what we will get.

83, 39, 07, 72, 30

Red: 9 – Mystery – Hidden Agenda

Yellow: 5 – Personal – Character Harm

Green: 2 – Action – Heavily Guarded

Blue: 2 – Action – Theft

White: 6 – Personal – Prized Possession

PLOT POINTSCHARACTERS INVOKED
Cha reveals a motive that they had not prev exposed. The Agenda now becomes known to others. 99 – New Character
Cha hurts another Cha in some personal way.54 – Most Logical
TP involves entering a heavily guarded location.
TP involves theft. TP the actual activity or action of the theft or attempted theft.
Whatever is happening in this TP it involves an important possession of a Cha.

Ok. How can we put these Plot Points together? Loxy and Ellis walk deeper into the Forest. After a while, there is a Thief, that comes out behind a Tree. He has a knife and wants money from them. They both lose 8 Gold. While they took out the Bag, the Thief steals something.

Let me roll in the Table Fables on Potion Effects – 69 – A Potion of Healing.

Ok, together with the Gold, he steals a Potion of Healing from Loxy. And doing so, he sees the Amulet that she is wearing around her Neck. She is not giving it up without a Fight. The Thief wins, hurting Loxy by doing so. Sadly Loxy loses her Amulet, which is quite important for her.

The only thing left is the Entering a heavily guarded location. Let’s leave it with, they come across the next Town that is guarded and they need to pay to get in. But don’t have anything so they can’t pass and have to walk around the Town.

Scene 4

I rolled a 94 for our next Plotline, which says – Choose the most Logical Plotline

So, we are still in the Forest. Let’s use the first one. Find the Tiny Chalky, Hairy-Fern.

01, 79, 16, 67, 81

Red: 6 – Personal – Welcome to the Plot

Yellow: 6 – Personal – Prized Possession

Green: 6 – Personal – Preparation

Blue: 3 – Action – None

White: 8 – Mystery – It’s a secret

PLOT POINTSCHARACTER INVOKED
Cha learns, that he is connected to this plot point. So connected to the Fern. CHA! 84 – New Character
it involves an important possession of a CHACHA! 78 – Logical CHA
CHA needs to prepare for something.CHA! 09 – Eny Deron, Daughter
TP involves an activity that is done in secret.

Let me use the Cards to craft a new Character for the first Plot Point.
29 – Special Trait – The Character is an Individual
87 – Identity – Survivor
37 – Descriptor – Dirty

Here is my Idea for this Scene. So Loxy and Ellis walking around the Townwall when they come across a old, dirty Woman pulling a Cart. She begs them to buy something from her. They are both Moneyless because of the Theft. But, maybe the Woman would take an exchange? She asks what the two have. We did not have anything in our Bags, that she was interested in. Her Eyes start to glow and under her breath, she says: “You are looking for a Fern. Keep looking. It will help you in a way you never believe.” She then turned her head and looked at Ellis. “Keep looking for your Daughter, she needs to prepare for a Task. You are close.” Her Eyes are coming back to normal. Ellis is spooked. He just stares in the Air. Loxy has an Idea. She gives up the Book she has in her Possession. The woman recognizes the Book as Powerful when used correctly. Loxy mentions the Scroll on the Table. It is a Sending Scroll. Loxy tries to get the Scroll for Ellis, so he can talk to his Daughter.

Let’s say it is a 50/50 Chance of Working. Loxy has a Persuasion of +0. So 1-10 she says no to the deal. 11 up its a Yes.

Oh, no, I only rolled an 8 – She says no. But, if we give her one more thing, she might reconsider.

Loxy takes out her Caligraphers Kit which is worth quite a lot. Let’s lower the DC to 8.

Natural 20 – Let’s GO!!! Without Ellis noticing it she gets the Sending Scroll. But, she does not tell him right away.
